To make my own I used air-dry clay and acrylic paint and what I loved about this project is that you can make them as realistic or not as you like and they will look great either way. I chose to use small pots inside instead of planting directly in the planter, but if you decide to plant directly inside make sure you use the appropriate clay in order to fire them so that you can water the plants without damaging your beautiful planter.
I was in Anthropolgie recently and saw these super cute animal planters and knew they would be the perfect addition to the animal themed nursery we are planning. After I had sculpted the figures and let the clay dry over several days, I painted them with primer. The clay is extremely porous so I had to do several coats. I kind of like the unintentional lean they all have going on! When the primer was dry I used acrylic paint for their markings which was definitely the most time consuming part. After the pain was dry I found some sweet little succulents to pop in them. I love how they turned out and I had a lot of fun making them. I can't wait to see what they will look like in the nursery :)

Absolutely love these!!!!! I too really wanted the Anthropology ones but being in the UK postage was ridiculous. You've inspired me to have a go and make some too!
